They were likely weevils.

A FairPrice customer found insects in a pack of Barilla spaghetti bought from a Jurong West Street 41 outlet last month.

Stomper Kenneth shared photos and a video showing the weevils moving around in the uncooked pasta.

"The spaghetti was infested with bugs," said the Stomper.

"I realised this after reaching home and found bugs crawling all over the FairPrice plastic bags. When I opened the Barilla packaging, bugs were crawling out.

The box said the durum wheat semolina pasta was produced on Aug 29, 2022, and was best before April 15, 2025.

"By the way, this wasn’t the first time I encountered this. I thought it was a one-off incident," said the Stomper.

In response to a Stomp query, a FairPrice Group spokesman said: "At FairPrice Group, we place great importance on food safety and quality.

"Having been notified of this matter via Stomp, we conducted a thorough investigation and the results found no anomalies in existing samples of the product in question.

"We have also worked closely with our supplier to take steps to prevent future incidents, such as doubling the frequency of fumigation and pest control services in the warehouse.

"We invite the affected customer to contact us directly to aid in our investigation on this matter.

"We also like to remind customers that our Freshness Guarantee policy allows them to return or exchange fresh products of unsatisfactory quality at the same store of purchase, with a receipt.
