Man clings to rear of moving auxiliary police armoured car on Stamford Road, gets arrested

A 22-year-old man was arrested after allegedly clinging to the rear of a Auxiliary Police Force armoured vehicle travelling along Stamford Road on May 3.

The police received a call for assistance from the Auxiliary Police Force at about 4.20am.

Investigations revealed that at about 3am, the Auxiliary Police Force officers were loading cash cartridges into the armoured vehicle along Queen Street when the man who appeared to be intoxicated wanted to enter the vehicle.

The officers told him to leave and they drove off the vehicle.

While the officers were travelling along Stamford Road, they discovered the man clinging to the rear vehicle door for about 850m between Victoria Street and Stamford Road.

The officers alighted from the vehicle and the man immediately stepped down from the vehicle and walked away.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Central Police Division arrested the man along Stamford Road within two hours of the report.

The man was charged in court on May 4 for drunkenness in public places causing annoyance, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 or an imprisonment for a term of up to six months or with both.
