Man arrested within 1 hour after allegedly molesting woman at Haji Lane: She took photo of him

A 35-year-old man was arrested after allegedly molesting a woman in the vicinity of Haji Lane.

The police said they received a report about the case on Tuesday (Aug 1), at around 9.50pm.

They added: "The woman managed to take a photo of the man and provided it to the police when she reported the incident."

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Central Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre established the man's identity and arrested him within one hour of the report.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of outrage of modesty carries a jail term of up to three years and/or a fine and/or caning.

The police said they have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community, adding: "Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law."

They also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report the matter to the police immediately if they witness an incident of outrage of modesty or are aware of someone being a victim of outrage of modesty.
