Man arrested for drink-driving after his Mercedes knocks down traffic light in Bukit Panjang at 3am

A 35-year-old man was arrested for suspected drink-driving after his car crashed into a traffic light in Bukit Panjang during the wee hours of April 10.

A Stomper shared a photo of the white Mercedes-Benz with its bonnet popped open and the traffic light pole leaning at an angle.

A Traffic Police officer can be seen standing behind the car.

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to the accident at about 3.15am.

The car was believed to have self-skidded at the junction of Petir Road and Gangsa Road towards Upper Bukit Timah Road.

No injuries were reported and police investigations are ongoing.

According to the Road Traffic Situation report for 2023 released by the police in February, the number of drink-driving accidents increased by 2.9 per cent from 175 cases in 2022 to 180 cases in 2023.

The number of fatal drink-driving accidents increased from 10 cases in 2022 to 11 cases in 2023.
