Man, 55, arrested after buying air ticket to get boarding pass -- so that he could send off GF

A 55-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (Aug 12) for misuse of his boarding pass, which he obtained so that he could send off his girlfriend at Changi Airport.

The police said investigations revealed that the man had allegedly purchased an air ticket in order to get a boarding pass, which he used to enter the airport's transit area to send off his girlfriend who was departing Singapore.

"As the man had no intention of leaving Singapore, he was arrested for violating the Infrastructure Protection Act 2017, which prohibits the misuse of boarding passes to enter protected places in the airport," police added.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Since January to August 2023, the police have arrested 16 people for the misuse of boarding passes under the Infrastructure Protection Act 2017 for entering the transit areas for reasons other than to travel out of Singapore.

Members of the public are reminded that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places. Those who make use of their boarding pass to enter the transit area for reasons other than to travel out of Singapore will be detected and arrested.

Offenders face a fine of up to $20,000 and/or up to two years in jail.
