Donation safe box stolen after thief breaks into temple, 52-year-old suspect arrested 2 days later

A 52-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at a temple in Bedok North Avenue 3, said the police.

The police were alerted on Wednesday (July 12) at about 7.20am to a case of housebreaking at Seu Teck Sean Tong Yiang Sin Sia temple.

A donation safe box, trolley and cash from donation boxes were purportedly stolen.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the lock on a side gate was found damaged.

Through ground enquires and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the man’s identity and arrested him on Friday.

The donation safe box, trolley and cash of about $90 were recovered.

The man was to be charged in court on Saturday with the offence of housebreaking and theft, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, a fine and caning.
