A fire which involved a pile of cardboard boxes broke out at Block 186 Boon Lay Drive at about 2pm  yesterday (Aug 19).

A Stomper, who resides on the second storey of the block, shared with Stomp photos and a video of the incident.

He said: "This man always collects cardboards and places them underneath the block. I suspect someone threw something down from upstairs that's why there was a fire.

"My wife was cooking in the kitchen when she told me she smelled something burning, we couldn't see any fire from our unit but we saw smoke emerging from the cardboard boxes.

"Because this pile of cardboard boxes was directly below my kitchen, the smoke came into my home, so I threw a pail of water down.

"We are worried that our unit will catch fire because of this man constantly putting his cardboard boxes there."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they responded to a fire incident at about 3.50pm.

The fire, which involved discarded items, was extinguished by a member of the public prior to SCDF's arrival.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigations.
