He looked angry.

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) passenger accused an SIA staff member of lying after the passenger could not get on the flight that the SIA staff member had assured he would.

A Stomper alerted Stomp to a video of the passenger ranting at another SIA staff member was uploaded to TikTok on April 5, the day after the incident.

"I'm extremely disappointed by how we treat the SQ staff. Please show them appreciation," said the Stomper.

"I am sure that they don’t want delays to happen."

The caption for the video said that the 3.25pm SIA flight SQ709 from Bangkok to Singapore was cancelled due to engine problems after passengers had boarded and waited for one hour on the plane.

"Business class passengers were told they would be transferred to the next flight (5:30pm) as a priority so they could make connections in Singapore," continued the caption.

"However, Singapore Airlines staff did not do as they said and instead gave priority transfer to the economy class passengers until the plane was full. All business class passengers missed out and were left stranded in Bangkok.

"Some had to wait 24 hours until the next available flight to their destination. This is the reaction of the passengers after finding out that they were passed over."

In the video, the white-haired bespectacled passenger can be seen approaching the airport counter and telling the SIA staff member how disappointed he was.

He said it was announced earlier that only business class passengers would be allowed on the flight SQ711, which was the next flight to Singapore.

He said he asked the manager: "Do you have the seat?"

According to the passenger, the manager replied: "Yes, no problem."

Later, when the passenger saw the economy class passenger being issued tickets, he approached the manager again.

"He lies. He said they bought the new tickets. Don't lie to me. He tear the ticket and gave them the new ticket," said the passenger.

"When I questioned him further, he said, oh, some of them go to jump seat. Look, I'm not an airline man, but I travel a lot. Jump seat is not allowed after 9/11."

He asked why the manager lied.

The TikTok user who uploaded video also uploaded eight other videos showing the situation at the airport.

In response to media queries, an SIA spokesperson said that flight SQ709 encountered a technical issue at 3.21pm shortly after leaving the gate.

“Due to the need for a spare part and additional maintenance time, all affected passengers were rescheduled to another SIA flight scheduled to fly from Bangkok to Singapore on the same day,” the spokesperson said.

But due to a handling error, flight SQ711 was already full and 38 business class passengers were unable to board the flight.

The spokesperson said the SIA staff worked hard to notify the affected passengers as soon as possible after the error was discovered and the national carrier "sincerely apologises to all customers affected by the disruption to SQ709”.

In addition, SIA is reviewing its internal processes to improve customer handling procedures to prevent similar situations from happening again in the future.

The passenger in the video eventually got on the 10.15pm flight to Singapore, according to 8World News.
