A man was applauded for putting out a fire that broke out in a food stall at Bedok Food Centre on Nov 18.

Stomper Roziah alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos of the man holding a fire extinguisher and later talking to firefighters.

She told Stomp the man was eating at his family's stall when a fire broke out at the next stall.

"I was amazed to see this young man immediately rush to put out the fire by entering stall no. 1 and fighting the fire alone," she said.

"The fire was really big and spread up to the roof."

She added that two fire engines and two police cars arrived soon afterwards.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the fire at about 1.30pm.

"The fire involved a cooking pot in a food stall," an SCDF spokesperson said.

"A hawker centre staff extinguished the fire using two fire extinguishers prior to SCDF's arrival."

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Roziah told Stomp she wanted to 'salute' the man named Amirrudin for putting out the fire.

"I hope this can be a good lesson to all stall owners not to leave the fire on without someone manning the stall," she said.
