Eunos industrial fire: Firefighter taken to SGH for smoke inhalation discharged, resting at home

A fire broke out in a Eunos industrial estate on the evening of April 2 and a firefighter was taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation as a precautionary measure.

The firefighter has been discharged from the hospital and is currently resting at home, according to a Facebook update by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on April 3.

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at Block 1049 Eunos Avenue 6 at 9.15pm on April 2.

The fire, which engulfed three units along a row of terrace workshops, involved building materials and office equipment.

Stomper Tom shared a video of smoke billowing from the blaze at night.

Nineteen emergency vehicles and about 70 firefighters were deployed.

At the height of the firefighting operation, nine water jets, an aerial water monitor and an unmanned firefighting machine were used.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

[Update 2: Fire @ 1049, Eunos Avenue 6] At about 9:15pm today, SCDF was alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location. The fire, which engulfed three units along a row of terrace workshops, involved building materials and office equipment. A total of 19 emergency vehicles and about 70 firefighters are deployed for this incident. SCDF firefighters have surrounded the blaze with nine water jets and an aerial water monitor. There are no reported injuries. In view of the ongoing firefighting operation, members of the public are advised to stay away from the area.

By 2am, SCDF was carrying out damping down operation, which was the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after a fire has been put out.

This is to ensure that deep-seated embers are fully extinguished to prevent any rekindling of the fire.
