One person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at Block 483 Admiralty Link in Sembawang on Mar 24.

Stomper AT alerted Stomp to the incident and shared a video and photos of flames coming from a fifth-storey unit at the block.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the fire at 7pm.

"The fire involved contents of a bedroom inside a unit on the fifth floor," an SCDF spokesperson said.

"SCDF extinguished the fire with a water jet and two compressed air foam backpacks.

"A person was assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of the fire is from an electrical origin inside the affected bedroom."

SCDF reminds members of the public to adopt the following good practices to prevent electrical fires from occurring:

  1. Never overload electrical outlets with electrical appliances;

  2. Always switch off electrical appliances when not in use;

  3. Check the condition of wires regularly. Wires that are frayed or cracked should be replaced or repaired immediately;

  4. Do not run wires under carpets or mats and keep wires away from hot surfaces;

  5. Use appliances and electrical plugs bearing the Safety Mark. The categories of appliances can  be found at http://www.consumerproductsafety.gov.sg

  6. Do not leave batteries or devices charging for a prolonged period of time or charging them unattended overnight.
