Elderly man fractures pelvis after slipping on wet floor at MacRitchie Reservoir

An elderly man fractured his pelvis and required five hours of surgery after he slipped and fell at MacRitchie Reservoir.

Mr Su Zhensong, a 73-year-old retiree, told Shin Min Daily News that he had gone to MacRitchie Reservoir to exercise with a group of friends when one of them fell down on a slippery path.

He said: "Around 20 of us often meet for morning exercise over the weekend, but this is the first time someone has fallen down and gotten injured."

The victim, who is in his 70s, was taken to hospital in an ambulance. He was found to have a pelvic fracture and had to undergo five hours of surgery to install screws in the injury site.

Mr Su added: "The area where the incident happened tends to be slippery and it had also just rained. We were already quite careful when walking, but there was no one near my friend and everything happened so suddenly that we could not help him in time."

Mr Su also believes that moss might have made the ground even more slippery.

He said: "A lot of people jog along this path and the elderly also do morning exercises here, so I hope the situation can be improved."
