Divers 'fighting' in S.E.A. Aquarium? No, it's part of rescue diving course

A scene from the old James Cameron movie, The Abyss?

It sure ain't Avatar: The Way Of Water.

A video of scuba divers purportedly "fighting" each other underwater at the S.E.A. Aquarium on Sentosa is not what it appears.

Posted by a TikTok user named Angharad Yeo, the video was shared by sgmustwatchla on Friday (Aug 25) with the description: "Divers fighting in S.E.A Aquarium Singapore."

The seven-second video was also subtitled: "POV: Where is Aquaman when we need him?"

Five scuba divers can be seen in the water with two of them struggling with each other as all of them swam upwards.

Netizens likened it to underwater mixed martial arts, World Wrestling Entertainment and Ultimate Fighting Championship.

One observed: "Slowest punches ever."

Another joked: "I thought Singapore started to make their own new James Bond 007 movie called James Boon 003: Showdown At Sentosa."

S.E.A Aquarium itself commented on the video on Instagram: "Thank you for sharing this video and your concern.

"What you have captured is actually part of our PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) rescue diver training course for our staff. The instructor is simulating a panicked diver’s uncontrolled ascend by irrationally shooting up to the surface while grasping on the rescued divers.

"The purpose of this simulation is to train rescue divers to approach and help distressed divers underwater in real-life scenarios.

"This course is currently not available to public but keep a look out for updates on our dive courses."
