A DHL Express courier who piggybacked an elderly man across the road was not aware that his actions were being captured on camera -- or that the video would go viral.
Stomper H. Leonardi had witnessed the incident at the junction of Waterloo Street and Middle Road on Friday (May 17) morning, and shared the video with Stomp.
The courier, identified as 40-year-old Anson Chung, told Stomp: "I was on my way to a delivery when I saw the elderly man struggling to cross the road.
"The traffic light had already turned green and cars were stopping for him. I just wanted to help him cross the road safely so he could get home safely. That's all that crossed my mind.
"I stopped my van at a safe place and went to help him. He had problems walking, so I decided to piggyback him."
The elderly man thanked Anson, who returned to his van only after making sure that the man was safe and stable on his walking aid.
Anson, a Singaporean who has been with DHL Express for 15 years, added: "I am only doing what is right, so I didn't expect it to go viral."
On Friday evening, Anson was lauded by his employers at an iftar event held for staff at DHL Express Singapore's service centre.

Responding to a Stomp query, DHL Express Singapore's managing director Christopher Ong said: "We are proud to have Anson Chung, who has such a big heart, as a member of our staff.
"We are glad that he was there at the right time and place to lend a helping hand.
"He is a role model to all our employees of how we can be connecting people and improving lives beyond just delivering parcels.”
