Cyclist, 18, dies after getting hit by bus in Yishun: Family breaks down while identifying body

An 18-year-old cyclist was killed in an accident with a bus in Yishun on Wednesday (July 12).

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Ring Road at around 5.55pm.

The cyclist is believed to have been riding across the road when he was hit by the bus, reported Shin Min Daily News.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.

"A 37 year-old male bus driver was arrested for careless driving causing death," police told Stomp.

A large pool of blood was spotted at the accident site. A black shoe and a black water bottle, apparently belonging to the deceased, could also be seen on the grass patch.

Reporters saw a middle-aged man, believed to the cyclist's father, and several family members arriving at the scene to identify the victim's body.

The man was crying, then broke down and collapsed on the ground when he saw the body. His companions were later seen helping him to the side of the road and comforting him. They left around two hours later, after the body was taken away.

Police investigations are ongoing.
