Some residents living in Bukit Panjang were surprised when they saw fireworks shooting into the sky nearby on Saturday night (Oct 14).

Stompers Praveen and Sivajini shared videos of the fireworks display.

They both said the fireworks were coming from beyond some blocks at Senja Road.

It turns out the fireworks were because the Tao Bu Keng temple in Choa Chu Kang was celebrating the Nine Emperor Gods festival.

The Nine Emperor Gods festival is celebrated by the Taoist community and is also known as the Vegetarian Festival or 九皇爺誕 (Jiu Huang Ye Dan) and lasts nine days.

Facebook user Cheong Hengrui posted a poster of the event, inviting people to join the temple in viewing the 'beautiful fireworks display' at 36 Jalan Teck Whye at 8.30pm on Saturday.
