Alert AMK Western Union staffer saves man from Cyber Extortion scam

An alert Western Union staffer who saved a man from falling prey to a Cyber Extortion scam earned the praise of the Singapore Police Force.

In a post on the Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre Facebook post, it was explained that on July 6, Miss Tessie Diaz had a phone conversation with a 23-year-old man.

However, she detected the tell-tale signs of a scam that she learned from regular Police engagements and her company training.

So, instead of remitting $150 to the culprit as the unsuspecting man had requested, Ms Tessie provided him with crime prevention advisory and told him to lodge a Police report at the nearby Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre.

The scam was thus successfully foiled and the man was saved from falling prey to it.

Yesterday (July 12), Ms Tessie received a Letter of Appreciation from Assistant Superintendent of Police Iswan Mohamed from Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre for her assistance rendered leading to prevention of Cyber Extortion Scam.
