A fire broke out in a restaurant at Century Square in Tampines on Tuesday evening (July 18).

Stomper Joey alerted Stomp to the incident and shared a video of smoke coming from the roof of the shopping mall at about 6.20pm.

"We noticed a lot of smoke coming out from Century Square's exhaust on the roof," he said.

"We did not notice if there was any evacuation but we saw Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel and vehicles parked next to the building at 7.50pm."

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said they were alerted to a fire at 2 Tampines Central 5 at about 6.20pm.

"The fire involved contents of a deep fryer in a restaurant located on the fifth floor," an SCDF spokesman said.

"Members of the public attempted to extinguish the fire using buckets of water prior to SCDF's arrival.

"SCDF extinguished the fire using a dry powder extinguisher.

"About 20 people self-evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF.

"SCDF evacuated about 50 people as a precautionary measure."

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
