26 arrested for illegal gambling activities, under investigation for flouting safe distancing measures

Twenty-six people were arrested for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling activities in a five-day enforcement operation.

The operation was conducted by Central Police Division at Everton Park, Geylang Bahru, Temple Street and Jalan Besar.

The 16 men and 10 women, aged between 43 and 82, were nabbed for offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act and the Betting Act.

Cash amounting to $8,499 was seized during the operation, said police on Wednesday (May 13).

The police are also investigating the suspects for breaching safe distancing measures under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

Investigations are ongoing.

The police also said that they will continue to clamp down on criminal activities, adding: "Those found engaging in such activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.

"Members of the public are also advised to take the circuit breaker measures seriously."
