2 men and 1 woman arrested for loanshark harassment in Bedok Reservoir Road and Sengkang

Two men and a woman were arrested for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment in Bedok Reservoir Road and Sengkang.

On Thursday (Aug 17) at about 6pm, the police were alerted after the gate of a residential unit was secured with a chain lock at Bedok Reservoir Road.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the two men, aged 24 and 28, and arrested them on Friday.

Earlier on Aug 11 at about 9.20pm, the police were alerted to another case where a debtor’s note was left at a residential unit and the gate was splashed with red paint at Rivervale Walk in Sengkang.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 42-year-old woman and arrested her on Thursday.

All three were to be charged in court on Saturday under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

Repeat offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $6,000 and not more than $60,000, with mandatory imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than nine years, and caning of not less than five and not more than 10 strokes.
