'Bro, this time you remember my name': Man arrested for loanshark harassment in Kallang

A 63-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in loanshark harassment where a flat in Kallang was splashed with red paint, said the police.

A debtor’s note placed at the gate read: 'Bro, this time you remember my name, Roger! WhatsApp me to settle."

The police said they were alerted to the case at Upper Boon Keng Road on Thursday (Aug 3).

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him the next day.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide. One mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.

The man was to be charged in court on Saturday 2023 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

Another man was arrested on Thursday for a case of loanshark harassment at Woodlands Drive 14, where a similar debtor’s note was placed on the main door of a flat.

The note said: "Better come out settle your loan don't want force me do anything better Whatapp (sic)."

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5000 and not more than $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
