Police and SCDF investigating fire involving mattress at Yishun HDB block

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are investigating an incident where a mattress caught fire at Block 174 Yishun Avenue 7 on Friday (Jan 13).

Stomper Jason alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos of the damage the fire had caused near a lift lobby on the 12th floor of the HDB block.

The floor, walls and ceiling were blackened by the fire.

A bed frame that appeared to have been burnt by the fire was seen placed at the foot of the block.

In response to Stomp queries the police said they were alerted to the fire at 4.57am.

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 5pm.

"The fire involved a mattress placed along a corridor on the 12th floor," an SCDF spokesman said.

"The fire burnt itself out prior to SCDF's arrival."

There were no reported injuries and investigations are ongoing.
