2 men arrested for selling counterfeit goods online, items worth over $50k seized

Two men, aged 32 and 44, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in online sales of counterfeit goods.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted raids at Bishan Street 23 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Thursday (July 1), resulting in the arrests.

More than 2,700 pieces of purported trademark-infringing goods comprising apparel, memory cards, wireless earbuds, audio headphones and speakers, with an estimated street value of more than $50,000 were seized during the operation.

Police investigations are ongoing.

In a statement, the police said they take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringements and reminded the public that the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.

They added: "The police will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers."

Under the Trade Marks Act, each offence of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trademarks carries a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years.
