"Double happiness comes with a price" for woman found with duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden in car

A 42-year-old Malaysian female driver was found with 227 cartons and 1,366 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden in a car at Tuas Checkpoint on July 16.

In a Facebook post, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said officers discovered the cigarettes in various compartments of the Malaysia-registered car at around 1.25pm.

The case was handed over to the Singapore Customs.

ICA also shared photos of the "Double Happiness" cigarettes, a Chinese brand.

"(Double) Happiness Comes with a Price," quipped ICA in its post, adding that "this method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore."
