"You can’t chew on this!" 6,800 sachets of chewing tobacco found in car at Woodlands Checkpoint

A 35-year-old driver was caught smuggling over 6,800 sachets of chewing tobacco via the Woodlands Checkpoint on Tuesday (June 19).

In a Facebook post titled "You can’t chew on this!", the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that a vigilant officer had noticed the Malaysian man "appearing nervous and avoiding eye contact" at the checkpoint.

"Sensing something amiss, our officers conducted further checks and found over 6,800 sachets of chewing tobacco hidden in modified compartments of the car," added ICA.

These compartments included under the front passenger floor mat, in the rear boot and inside the door panels, reported The Straits Times.

The Health Sciences Authority is investigating the case.
