4-year-old boy's arm gets ripped off in horrifying escalator accident in China

A horrific escalator accident occurred at a shopping mall in Nanchang, Jiangxi province on Jun 1 when a four-year-old boy's arm was ripped off.

In surveillance footage from the mall, the boy can be seen walking up an escalator that is moving downwards.

When his mother reaches him, he suddenly slips and falls.

At first it did not seem like anything was wrong but the boy's arm got stuck inside the escalator.

After attempting to pull her son free, she shouts to passers-by for help.

They rush to her side and press the emergency stop button but it is too late.

According to Shanghaiist, the boy was rushed to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to reattach the rest of his arm below his elbow.

He has been put under observation to ensure that blood reaches his reattached limb.
