A rat was spotted in the Big Appetite food court at Suntec City Mall in December.

Stomper H said it happened on a busy Saturday evening.

"I saw a very big rodent running around above the mixed vegetable stall at the Big Appetite food court," recounted the Stomper.

"A few diners jumped up as it ran past their legs. A big crowd gathered."

The Stomper shared a video of the rat taken after the crowd dispersed.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it was looking into the matter.

The agency added: "Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"Food operators should also ensure that their premises are clean and well-maintained."

Members of the public who come across any potentially errant food operator should report to SFA via the online feedback form.

SFA said it takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

Stomp has contacted Suntec City Mall for more info.

In November last year, Tangs temporarily closed its Tangs Market food court for cleaning and sanitisation after a rat fell from the ceiling and landed on a food tray in front of diners.

SFA said it would be taking enforcement action against five food shops found with hygiene lapses.
