Town council responds after group of youths spotted smoking, playing sepak takraw at Tampines

The Tampines Town Council has responded to a resident's concerns after he saw a group of more than five youths smoking and playing sepak takraw at a void deck in Tampines on July 19.

A Stomper alerted Stomp to the incident that occurred at the void deck of Block 737 Tampines Street 72 and shared photos he took.

He said: "I saw seven to eight teens smoking and playing sepak takraw from at least 8pm.

"All of them were without proper masks."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesman of Tampines Town Council said: "Smoking under the void deck is prohibited under the Smoking Act and we have notified the National Environment Agency on this matter.

"We have placed educational advisories in the area to remind the public that they are not allowed to smoke in common areas.

"Even during Phase Two of Singapore’s post-circuit breaker reopening, our fight against Covid-19 continues.

"We wish to remind all residents to remain vigilant and adhere to the safe distancing measures.

"Please keep all group activities to five people and to always wear a mask when outside or after strenuous exercise.

"Members of the public can report cases where safe distancing is not observed via the OneService App under the dedicated ‘Safe Distancing’ category.

"The information provided will help the relevant agencies know where the 'hotspots' are that require further enforcement and patrolling action.

"We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities on this matter."
