SMRT bus hits lamp post at Bedok North, bus captain assisting with investigations

A 63-year-old bus driver is assisting the police with investigations after a double-decker SMRT bus hit a lamp post along Bedok North Avenue 3 towards Bedok Reservoir Road on Mar 17.

A Stomper alerted Stomp to a photo of the incident posted online by Facebook user Mohd Deen.

In the photo, police officers were at the scene in front of Block 403. The lamp post bent and leaning over.

The police told Stomp they were alerted to the accident at 1.40pm.

"A 63-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations," a police spokesperson said.

No injuries were reported and police investigations are ongoing.

In response to a Stomp query, Deputy managing director of SMRT Buses Vincent Gay said: "On 17 March, at around 1.30pm, bus service 67 was turning into the bus stop at Blk 403 Bedok North Ave 3 and collided into a lamp post.

"There were no reported injuries among the commuters onboard the bus. 

"The safety of our commuters is our top priority.

"Our Bus Captain facilitated the safe transfer of all 10 commuters onto another bus to continue their journeys.

"We are currently investigating the incident."
