SFA recalls organic mee suar over undeclared gluten allergen

Taste Original's Organic Mee Suar has been recalled after the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) detected the presence of gluten, which was not declared on the food packaging labels.

SFA has directed the importer, Taste Original to recall the implicated product. The recall process is currently ongoing.

The expiry date of the product being recalled is Aug 29, 2024.

Gluten is an allergen, and its non-declaration on food packaging could potentially cause allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to it, SFA said.

To safeguard consumers with food allergies, Singapore's Food Regulations mandate that food products containing ingredients known to cause hypersensitivity must be declared on food packaging labels. All ingredients in prepacked food should also be specified on the product label in descending order of the proportions by weight in which they are present.

While gluten, a type of protein naturally found in wheat and other grains, does not pose a food safety issue to the general public, it can cause adverse reactions in those who are intolerant of or allergic to it. Consumers who have purchased the implicated products, and who are intolerant of or allergic to gluten, are advised not to consume them.

Those who have consumed the implicated products and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers may also contact their point of purchase for further enquiries.
