A woman was left injured after she was allegedly assaulted by a group of teenagers with a metal rod in Sengkang.

Ms Chen said the incident occurred while she was on her way to work near Block 400C Fernvale Lane on March 22, at around 5.30am.

The 58-year-old kitchen assistant, who lives in a flat nearby, walks to the bus stop daily to catch a bus to work.

On the day of the incident, she had been walking by the roadside due to construction works being carried out on the pavement.

She suddenly heard a noise from behind and turned around to find three to four youths riding a personal mobility device (PMD).

According to Ms Chen, the group looked to be in their teens. They were small in build, wearing t-shirts and squeezed on the PMD. As it was dark, she was unable to determine whether there were three or four people.

Ms Chen told Shin Min Daily News: "I was worried that they would run into me, so I went to the other side of the road.

"However, they followed me. One person hit my left buttock with a 20cm to 30cm object resembling a metal rod.

"I felt severe pain and was shocked."

The teens laughed loudly after the attack and remained arrogant even when she threatened to call the police, said Ms Chen. They also waved the metal rod in front of her and only fled when she took out her mobile phone.

Ms Chen immediately informed her husband and the police about the assault, and visited a doctor the next day. She was given painkillers, ointment and three days of medical leave.

She added: "The doctor said I might have injured my tailbone. In addition to the pain in my hip muscles, my upper back is also starting to hurt."

Ms Chen said the incident has left her with a lingering fear and she now feels afraid when out walking.

In response to media queries, the police confirm a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
