New York couple in The Amazing Race win trip to S'pore including Tioman snorkelling adventure

Tioman is not part of Singapore.

But you might be forgiven for thinking that it is if you watched the US version of The Amazing Race on April 10.

In the episode, when the winning team reached the pit stop in Santiago, Chile, host Phil Keoghan told them: "As the first team to arrive, you have won Expedia One Key Cash that you can use for a five-night trip for two to Singapore.

"Expedia experts will design a unique local experience, including an immersive Singaporean dining experience on the Tioman island reef snorkel adventure, a private food and culture tour and a Gardens by the Bay trip."

The spiel was accompanied by images of the Old Hill Street Police Street, bowls of laksa, a man snorkelling underwater (presumably at the Malaysian island of Tioman) and Gardens by the Bay.

The episode's winning team were preschool teacher Ricky Rotandi and food stylist Cesar Aldrete, both 34, who are a dating couple from New York.

The episode was the fifth of the 36th season of The Amazing Race.

Previously, the award-winning reality show came to Singapore in season 3 in 2002, season 16 in 2010 and season 25 in 2014.

In the 2002 episode, a clue was handed out in a Choa Chu Kang flat by sitcom character Phua Chu Kang, played by Gurmit Singh.
