The Marine Parade Town Council (MPTC) is working closely with pest control operators in light of multiple rodent sightings at Balam Road in Macpherson.

A Stomper who is a resident in the area shared with Stomp video clips of rats he sighted near Blocks 27 and 32 on June 16

"The issue has been going on for a long time," he said.

"About five years.

"It really is a public issue."

The Stomper added that he often sees the rats in drains, roads and void decks. Fortunately, they have not made their way up to his unit.

In response to a Stomp query, MPTC said they are aware of the rodent sightings and have been engaging their pest control operators to carry out checks and rodent treatments in the vicinity of the estate.

"The team conducts regular inspections for rat activities and carries out preventive maintenance, such as rat burrow treatments and night attacks to trap and eliminate rodents within the vicinity," an MPTC spokesman said.

"We also pay particular attention to housekeeping of our bin centres and surrounding areas so that they do not become harbouring grounds.

"The Town Council will continue to work closely with our pest control operators to monitor the situation to improve the situation and will be carrying out additional treatments in the estate.

"Rats tend to be attracted to areas where there are available food sources.

"Hence, we wish to take this opportunity to encourage residents to play their part in maintaining the cleanliness and keeping the estate free of potential food sources for rodents by discarding food waste and disposing of litter correctly.

"Residents are encouraged to contact our town council directly should they have any estate-related queries.

"Residents may reach out to us at 1800-241 6487 or 1800-287 6530, or via our Facebook and Instagram (@marineparadetc)."
