He wants to reclaim the residents' corner at Block 807 King George’s Avenue.

Stomper Sylim has lived in the Jalan Besar neighbourhood for more than 30 years and lamented the void deck area has never been dirtier.

"At the block, a bunch of drunkards hog the residents’ corner from early morning to late night every day," said the Stomper.

"All are not residents in the area. They drink, smoke, eat and gamble. They become piss drunk and stagger around. Some shady characters look like they are high on substance sometimes.

"They urinate and sometimes defecate in the lift lobby or wherever suitable. They litter the place with food, attracting pigeons and rodents. And more recently, some drunkards in the block have joined in.

"Their presence makes it uneasy for families with children, for the elderly and for the ladies who return home from work late at night."

The Stomper pointed out that the most ironic part is that the residents' corner has a huge sign prohibiting urinating, littering, sleeping, eating and drinking. The maximum fine is 1,000. There are also smaller signs prohibiting smoking in the void deck.

He added: "It used to be that some of the elderly in the block would gather at the corner in the evening for chit-chat. But since the group started coming more than one year ago, none of the residents could use the corner.

"Despite numerous complaints, neither the authorities nor the town council has taken any action.

"Can someone tell us how to reclaim our residents’ corner?"

Stomp has contacted the Jalan Besar Town Council for more info.
