Man and son get upclose look at wild boar that's 'half the size of a car' in Punggol

Stomper Daryl was on the way home from picking his son up from tuition at the recreational centre last Saturday (Oct 13) at 4pm and came across the wild boar opposite SAFRA Punggol.

He was walking towards Sam Kee LRT Station, near a construction site where they are building the new Punggol Town Hub.

He took a picture when it was not paying attention.

He said: "It was big, almost the size of half a car and I was terrified. I was worried for my son, but we knew we just had to walk past it.

"When it was not paying any attention to us while we were walking, I snapped a picture of it."

"I read the article you posted yesterday (Oct 16) on the woman spotting many wild boars in Punggol too.

"I am a resident of Punggol it seems more common to spot a wild boar now as compared to before the construction of the town hub started.

"The construction is happening at the semi-forested area where I think they used to stay, so they are coming out into the open more," he added.

The AVA has issued the following public advisory for when you encounter a wild boar:

  • AVA advises the public not to approach, disturb, feed or try to catch any wildlife. We urge the public to keep a safe distance from all wild boars and avoid confronting or cornering the animals. Do not interact with the animal, and ensure that young children and pets are kept away as they may be curious and approach it.

  • The public can refer to the advisory on wild boars on AVA’s website and contact us at 1800 476 1600 to provide feedback or request for assistance.
