Man allegedly robbed woman of purse with $10, now faces at least 3 years' jail and 12 strokes of cane

A man was charged with robbery on Tuesday (Aug 22) after allegedly robbing a woman of her purse containing cash of about $10 and some miscellaneous items, said the police.

The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than three years and not more than 14 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The police were alerted Sunday at about 12.15am to a case of robbery at Woodlands Avenue 7.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV footage, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 48-year-old man and arrested him within 24 hours of the report.

A blue purse belonging to the victim was recovered.

The police said they would spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes.
