Man, 24, arrested after putting metal rod on cashier's neck and demanding money in CCK supermarket

A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rob a supermarket in Choa Chu Kang.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a case of attempted robbery at a supermarket along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7 on Apr 14 at about 3.15am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a man had allegedly walked into the supermarket with a metal rod, placed it on the cashier's neck and demanded money from the cashier.

The cashier did not give in to the demand and the man left the supermarket.

No injuries were reported.

Police officers identified the man and arrested him within two hours of the report. A metal rod was seized as a case exhibit.

The man will be charged in court on Apr 15 with the offence of attempted robbery which carries a jail term of between two and seven years, and at least six strokes of the cane.
