Man, 21, arrested after being found with knife at North Bridge Road and trying to flee

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for carrying an offensive weapon in a public place, the police said in a statement.

Officers from the Public Transport Security Command had conducted a check on two men along North Bridge Road near City Hall MRT Station on Jan 1 at about 12.15am when one of the men attempted to run away.

He was subsequently detained and following a search, a knife was found in his possession. He was then placed under arrest.

The man will be charged in court on Thursday (Feb 6) with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.

If convicted, the man faces up to three years' jail and up to six strokes of the cane.
