Man, 20, arrested after punching police officer in the face at Tiong Bahru Road

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, the police said in a statement on Thursday (June 15).

Police officers were patrolling along Tiong Bahru Road on Thursday at about 2.35am when they spotted three men and proceeded to conduct checks on them.

During the checks, one of the men was uncooperative and became aggressive.

The man allegedly threw a punch at one of the officer's face, causing him to sustain a laceration on his left cheek.

The man was immediately arrested.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty carries a jail term of up to seven years, and a fine, or caning.
