Servant Leader

Betty Choh was a student leader in secondary school but it was only in ITE that she learnt how to be an effective leader. As the President of ITE College West’s Student Council, she led her team in organising numerous in-campus and outreach activities in the community. Instead of adopting an autocratic style, Betty took a consultative stance by gathering inputs from fellow members before making major decisions. This leadership style won praises from her peers and rallied them to give their best for every event.

During the Student Management Dialogues in 2021 and 2022, Betty had to helm the programme, solicit views from fellow students on societal issues as a facilitator and even emcee the event. She used to shy away from the limelight but now she can better manage her stage fright and address a crowd confidently. Betty believes in leading by example so she hopes her actions can guide people and future projects to success.

From the Heart

“I gave my ExCo team the freedom to speak up, share opinions and suggest fresh ideas and new ways of doing things. It is important for a leader to give others a voice and listen actively. This is how we discover new possibilities together!”

Life after ITE

She is currently pursuing the Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management at Nanyang Polytechnic. After obtaining a diploma, she has plans to work in the tourism industry or further her studies in a related field.
