A Stomper expressed concern after seeing a woman driving along Changi Road towards Joo Chiat with a dog in her lap.

"This nonchalant driver who is probably used to doing this irresponsible act, is endangering other road users as well," she said.

"I'm very concerned about this increasingly common sight, even with toddlers with the drivers at the wheels!"

There are currently no laws here governing the transport of dogs in vehicle but according to the Traffic Police, action can be taken against motorists who are distracted by animals for failing to maintain proper control of the vehicles.

However, should rules be enforced here to protect road users and their pets?

In Hawaii, it is illegal to drive with a dog on your lap while in states like Victoria in Australia, dogs have to be in cages or restrained using tethers when carried in pick-ups and lorries.
