Whatever happened to "bring your own container"?

A Hougang food stall rejected a customer's containers and charged 50 cents each for its own containers.

Stomper Zhen had bought laksa and tom yum seafood soup noodles for takeaway at the KPT Jing Fish Soup at the Block 401 Hougang Avenue 10 coffee shop on March 25.

"The stall refused to pack the food in the customer's container and insisted on using their own food containers, which they are charging at a steep price of 50 cents each instead of the usual 30 cents," said the Stomper, who shared a photo of the receipt.

As two items were ordered, the Stomper was charged $1 for two containers.

In January, Stomp reported that a Geylang noodle stall charged 50 cents for each takeaway even if customers brought their own containers.

The Bring Your Own Container campaign was first launched in 2020 to curb the excessive use of disposables.
