Hong Kong singer Ellen Joyce Loo, 32, falls to death from building

Hong Kong celebrity Ellen Joyce Loo was found dead outside her Happy Valley residence on Sunday (Aug 5).

According to the South China Morning Post, the police received a report of a person falling from a building in Sing Woo Road at about 9.50am and confirmed that the deceased was Loo.

Investigations are ongoing, but there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death according to preliminary findings.

The Toronto-born star, who was 32 years old, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2013.

She came out as a lesbian last year, thanking her wife Fisher Yu during her speech while collecting an award at the 28th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan, reported The Straits Times.

Loo's last public post on her Facebook page last Thursday (Aug 2) was a selfie with the caption: “I am preparing to do something great today, it's one of the decisions I made for myself since I turned 30.

"I have a new goal and I finally understand why people like to take selfies of themselves because you really want to take a picture of yourself when you have a high morale."

A statement posted on Loo's page yesterday confirmed the singer's death.

Addressed to "all friends who loved Ellen Loo", it said: "She was our beloved ah mei. The past few years, she was constantly fighting a difficult battle, faced with mood disorders and troubled by bipolar disorder.

"We were always by her side, hoping to give her support and strength.

"Today, she chose to leave us. We hope she finds peace in another world."

The statement also thanked everyone for sending their condolences.
