GrabHitch driver molests 2 women in car on separate journeys

A 38-year-old GrabHitch driver will be charged in court for molesting two women in his car last October, the police said in a news release.

On Oct 12 and 13 last year, the two women, aged 45 and 24 respectively, reported they had boarded the man's car and were molested by him during their journey.

The driver and three other men, aged between 17 and 55, will be charged on Thursday (Mar 7) for five separate cases of outrage of modesty.

Here are the details of the other cases:

  • On Jul 24, 2018, a 13-year-old boy reported he was molested by a 55-year-old man at a clinic along Serangoon North Avenue 1.

  • On Oct 2, 2018, a 17-year-old girl reported she was molested by a 17-year-old teenager inside the lift of an HDB block along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

  • On Oct 30, 2018, a 25-year-old woman reported she was molested by a 35-year-old man on board a public bus.

The punishment for outrage of modesty is up to two years' jail, a fine, caning, or a combination of the three.

If the victim is under 14 years old, the maximum jail sentence is five years.

The police highlighted that committing such an offence on public transport is an aggravating factor that may result in a higher sentence.
