2 vegetarian food products recalled to affix label declaring they contain gluten

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) detected gluten in Vegetalk’s Pure Vegetarian Mutton Rendang Curry and Vegetarian Golden Roast Duck, which was not declared on the food packaging labels.

As a precaution, SFA directed the importer, Vegetalk Food Supplies, to recall the two implicated products and affix the appropriate labelling to declare the presence of gluten. The recalls are ongoing.

Gluten is a type of protein found naturally in wheat and other grains. Gluten does not pose a food safety issue to consumers at large, except for those who are intolerant/allergic to gluten.

Under Singapore’s Food Regulations, food products containing ingredients known to cause hypersensitivity must be declared on food packaging labels to safeguard public health.

All ingredients in prepacked food should also be specified on the product label in descending order of the proportions by weight in which they are present.
