Two fires were reported in Bukit Batok last week, the first on June 14 and the second two days later.

In the first incident, the fire broke out in a flat at Block 307 Bukit Batok Street 31.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at about 6.50pm.

The fire involved a sofa in the living room of a 12th-storey unit, said SCDF.

SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet and took one person to Singapore General Hospital.

The 79-year-old man subsequently died in hospital, reported The Straits Times.

In the second incident, SCDF told Stomp it was alerted to the fire at Block 392 Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 on Friday (June 16) at about 3.45am.

Stomper K shared a video showing flames and smoke engulfing the top of an HDB block.

The fire involved the contents of a living room and was extinguished using a water jet.

About 70 residents were evacuated by SCDF and police, and three people were taken to Singapore General Hospital.

The causes of both fires are under investigation.
