One person was taken to hospital after a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) caught fire along Fernvale Lane on Saturday morning (April 3).

Stomper Ong and his wife saw the PAB burst into flames right in front of them at around 10.10am.

Ong said: "Luckily, the cyclist got out in time.

"We called 995. The fire engine, ambulance and police arrived."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire involving a PAB on the road at around 10.30am.

A police officer extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher prior to the SCDF's arrival.

One person was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

"Preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire indicates that it was of electrical origin from the PAB's battery," said the SCDF.

Members of the public are reminded to take note of the following fire safety tips on the prevention of PAB and PMD fires.
