China's hot swim star Ning Zetao has been ditched from the national team for several violations, China's Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.
A memo leaked online on Sina stated that he had failed to obey competition rules, refused to participate in a relay event, and signed a sponsorship in private.
According to the Shanghaiist, Chinese athletes are not allowed to sign sponsorships without getting prior approval from the team.
The Swimming Management Centre of the General Administration of Sport of China said: "Ning Zetao violated the rules of the national swimming team which has resulted in an adverse effect on the team. He has been turned back for training to his previous team, the Chinese Navy Team."
The statement added that the decision was made last October by the national swimming team and it aimed to promote the healthy development of the sport in China.
Ning captivated the hearts of netizens in China after he won the men's 100-meter freestyle at the Kazan World Championships in 2015.
