27-year-old motorcyclist gets flung 10 metres, dies after crashing into car door which swung open suddenly at Ang Mo Kio

When the door of a car in front suddenly swung open, a 27-year-old man riding a motorcycle crashed into it and died from injuries sustained. 

The accident happened along a road stretch between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Avenue 1 yesterday (Feb 22) at 9.36pm, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

The motorcyclist slipped into a coma while he was being conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

When reporters arrived on the scene, paramedics were attempting to resuscitate the victim, while the vehicles involved were parked by the roadside.

A couple also stood by the vehicles and were being questioned by police officers.

According to the police, a 34-year-old man has been arrested and is being charged with causing death by a negligent act. 

When the accident happened, the suspect was seated in the front passenger seat, while his female companion drove the car. 

While the female driver stopped before a traffic light, the suspect, for reasons unknown, allegedly opened the door twice, without signalling or checking for incoming traffic. 

Tragedy struck when the suspect opened the door the second time when deceased's bike crashed into the vehicle and he was flung 10 meters away from the impact. 

Investigations are ongoing.
