Woman who went MIA after asking Edgefield Plains residents for loans arrested

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

In a statement, the police said they received several reports between June 15 and 16 about a woman who approached residents at Edgefield Plains, asking for loans between $100 and $150.

She provided various reasons for the loans, such as needing them for her family members’ medical fees.

Promising to return the borrowed sum, the suspect provided her mobile number.

However, she became uncontactable after receiving the money. The handphone number was also invalid.

Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the woman's identity and arrested her along Edgefield Walk on June 18.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone found guilty of cheating shall be punished with a jail term of up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
